2K Hires Apex Legends Lead to Boost Struggling Hero Shooter Project Ethos

2K Games has welcomed Ben Brinkman from Respawn Entertainment to direct the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently developing the anticipated over-the-shoulder roguelike extraction-shooter known as Project Ethos.

Management Transition Follows Lukewarm Response

Brinkman takes on the role of studio head at the development studio following the exit of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' underwhelming unveiling last fall.

Recently, 2K president David Ismailer updated staff about this decision through an internal memo, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had indicated the need for a distinct direction.

The president stated that the team is now reimagining Project Ethos with a revised vision, aiming to better meet gamer demands.

A Pattern of Key Recruitment

The news mirrors a comparable move taken by 2K Games in August, when they hired Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to work on the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.

Below is the full content from the president's memo:
