Larian Studios Unveil a Fresh Divinity, Labeling it Their Most Ambitious RPG to Date

The speculation around The Game Awards reached a fever pitch, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious image of a strange statue. The mystery has been revealed. Larian Studios is creating a fresh Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer packed with intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very opening of infernal gates.

Not the Expected Sequel

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian warned that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.

Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This distinction suggests that the team is likely building a more action-oriented experience rather than another turn-based title. Currently, it remains theory, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is universally respected and many say it kicked off the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and deep class systems—traits that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is traditional swords and sorcery, what truly sets Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs that are viable by choosing a specific type of character with a personal story.

The series is also wonderfully open-ended, letting players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be approached in a variety of manners, sometimes in lateral fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.

The Journey Continues

It is these creative systems that have cemented the series to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, players can anticipate a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
